Hyperpigmentation:

  1. Hyperpigmentation is an umbrella term used for any sort of excess melanin.
  2. It can occur due to various reasons - sun exposure, acne & pimples, age & hormonal.
  3. Can be in many forms - dark spots, tanning, acne marks etc
  4. Can be found on other parts of the body.
  5. A few types of pigmentation can be avoided & worked.

Melasma:

  1. Melasma is a type of hyperpigmentation due to hormonal changes.
  2. It occurs because of hormonal changes.
  3. Melasma appears like dark and blotchy patches of skin.
  4. Mainly occurs on the face, but also on other parts of the body.
  5. Since melasma is hormonal, topical treatments take a long time to work.

Melasma is difficult to be treated with topical treatments & takes a long time to work on.

An alternate way to treat Hyperpigmentation and Melasma is to use a Brightening Niacinamide Serum with Alpha Arbutin.
