The difference between AHAs, BHAs & PHAs:
? AHA: Alpha Hydroxy Acids are water-soluble acids that can be used to exfoliate the upper layer (dead skin cells) of the skin. Glycolic Acid is the strongest of the AHAs due to its small molecular size that can penetrate deeper into the skin. It is better to use them during the night routine.
? BHA: Beta-Hydroxy Acids are oil-soluble. They effectively act inside pores and work to unclog oil, dirt, and debris from your pores. Salicylic Acid is the perfect example. Salicylic Acid has a UV protective effect. Though, this does not mean you should skip sunscreen when using a leave-on BHA.
? PHA: Poly-Hydroxy Acids are similar to AHAs but more gentle on the skin due to their larger molecular size and slow release into the skin. PHAs can also play a role in hydrating your skin. These Acids are best for sensitive skin. While PHAs don't increase sun sensitivity, it's still important to use sunscreen when using actives.
